Mission Statement
The mission of the School of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies is to:
- Deliver high quality programs for liberal arts and teacher education in all areas.
- Maintain and enhance high quality general course offerings for all university programs.
- Deliver exemplary programs that are inclusionary and supportive of diversity.
- Prepare students to flourish in a multicultural society and globalized world.
- Foster relationships to the community and to schools (e.g., internships, service learning opportunities).
- Foster language and cultural immersion experiences.
- Support and encourage inter-faculty research and teaching relationships across the disciplines.
- Foster collaboration between our school and the Cultural Centers in order to promote recruitment of and encourage retention of students of color.
- Foster collaboration between our school and the Center for International Education in order to promote modern languages on the campus and integrate exchange students into the campus community.
- Support teacher education programs for language majors and establish better connections with cooperating teachers.
- Increase resources for language and cultural efforts.
- Establish a center/clearinghouse/website/library for cultural and linguistic issues and/or materials.
- Expand graduate offerings in cultural studies and languages.
- Restore lost positions and increase expertise in all areas.
- Develop and implement appropriate assessment tools.
